From time to time I take pleasure in working with video as well. After all, motion picture developed out of photography and this was derived from painting.

A motion picture image is subject to rules of composition same as a photography or a painting. However, in the case of still images the composition is resolved within one single frame whereas with video a good composition is the result of a sequence of frames the combination of which (the editing) qualifies the whole.
The sequence should generate an armonic structure where the key factor is the rythm, that is to say, time.

Sergej M. Ejzenštejn used to say that in film everything depends on the editing.

Photography, film and television have replaced painting in representing everyday transient reality. This is why I personally believe that the so-called figurative or realistic painting makes no sense today.
Abstraction from details allows a broader view of reality.
Painting can therefore deal again with universal aspects of life.
